Blog Post #16 - Importance of And Role of Practical Effects

Practical effects create a realistic quality to scenes, using physical elements like props, make up, miniatures, and machines. These allow actors to directly interact with their environment, creating a more believable and immersive experience for audience. Practical effects also can stand in place or replace actors, in scenes that are physically impossible for a human, or would harm or kill a person.

Above is an image of a practical effect of the "Blair-Thing" from John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982)

In my film I plan to have kills, and I need to make them believable on camera, and practical on set. As of right now I have little to no cgi or vfx experience, so practical props and rigs are what I will have to use.
