Blog Post #14 - Role of Foley

My opening scene will require foley for sound elements not heard enough or at all on set, especially because it will be filmed on my phone opposed to a microphone with centered sound recording. Usage of Foley is not usually noticeable in films, and it isn't meant to be.

Foley adds realistic, everyday sound effects such as footsteps, water, keys moving, the creaking of a door, and commonly found in the horror genre; bones cracking. The process creates a more immersive and believable experience for the audience, by enhancing the audio quality and making scenes feel more natural and lifelike.

Foley will be important in my film, for the background sounds of the party; like the sounds of a football being thrown and caught, footsteps, doors opening and closing, and plenty more. It will also be important to sell some of the kills, which may be limited in the quality of effects, but will be elevated by the foley sound effects of what is going on in the scene.
